Yes it's very a mental game really. Perhaps it's resides in wanting to protect ourselves, causing us to be overly self-conscious to an irrational point.
Our own rationality is often the opposite to other people. How often can you see the best thing for someone else, but are clueless to your own. Our own emotions cloud so much we often don’t realise to what extent.
Reframing or zooming out is something I am actively trying to practice, its so difficult to do in the moment though, but you always realise afterwards that’s what you should have done. I was toying with the idea of some kind of visual reminder like a tattoo, even just a temporary one on my hand that might remind me to consider this in the moment.
Drawing my own pen tattoos worked well for about a day, then you get used to it. I think the only way to make it second nature is to create the habit and that just takes practice.
So so difficult. Visual reminders are definitely powerful, I even have a poster with the heading 'Discipline' and a narrative of why we put in the effort we do.
But yes, for second nature we need to practice what we preach. Making those pathways to change our reactions can make a world of difference.
Yes, I hadn't heard the term but it's perfectly named.
Nobody else is putting you in the spotlight because they're too concerned with their own spotlight.
It's rather simple in the end but I think that we all worry too much about perception.

Thank you for reading Mark.

Emotions do play a massive part don't they. Stepping out that cloud is a challenge we must face to take the action we desire.
But to consider what advice we would give someone could be a good point of reflection to get out of our own heads and escape that cloud. 🤷🏾♂️
This post is definitely one I'll have to reread to remind myself each time I get into my own head.
