What is the role of luck?
Exploring my personal journey in understanding the correlation between luck and gratefulness
Abstract
We use the word ‘lucky’ as a cliché, but what does luck really mean?
Does it only refer to a highly unlikely combination of circumstances?
One statement I would like for you to keep at the back of your mind while reading is:
Luck is dependent on the judgement of a person, meaning it is subjective, and henceforth an opinion
Generally, people come to a consensus as to what can be attributed to luck and what shouldn’t be, whereby acknowledging the input of the ‘lucky’ person plays a key part in this decision.
Ultimately, the more control the person has exercised and impacted upon the outcome, the less likely we are to attribute the extraordinary result to luck.
Often, we refer to luck in this way, but if I were to say we are all lucky in our own right, would you agree?
In this thought-piece, I place emphasis on the relationship between luck and gratefulness, alongside my journey of understanding what luck means to me.
